Google Ads for Plumbers, Built Around Emergency and Planned Work

Google Ads for plumbers work best as two accounts in one: emergency campaigns that put a call button in front of someone with water on the floor, only during hours someone can answer, and planned-job campaigns for water heaters, repipes and sewer lines that send people to a page they can compare. I build and run plumbing accounts that way, set the reach by how far your trucks can drive, track the calls, and report each month on calls and booked jobs where your scheduling data allows. You talk to me, the person running the account. I've worked in SEO and Google Ads for 14+ years, and there's no long-term contract.

Where plumbers waste ad spend

These are plumbing-specific leaks, on top of the general setup problems on my Google Ads management page:

LeakWhat it looks likeWhat I do instead
Emergency ads ringing into voicemailOvernight clicks you pay for, with nobody picking upEmergency campaigns scheduled to the hours someone answers, or a plan to cover the rest
A radius bigger than your trucks can coverCalls from towns too far to reach in a reasonable timeLocations set by drive time from where your crews start
Drain clears and sewer lines sharing a budgetLow-value clicks use up the money meant for high-value jobsSeparate campaigns for emergency, drain and sewer, water heaters, and repipes or larger planned work
DIY and parts searchesAds showing for "how to," parts, supply-store and plumbing-job searchesNegative keyword lists built before launch and reviewed every week
Every click sent to the home pageSomeone with a burst pipe has to hunt for a phone numberEmergency ads built around a one-tap call; planned-job ads sent to a matching page

How it works

Audit and fix list in weeks 1-2, core work over months 1-4.

We agree your 30-day setup and fix list up front. If it isn't delivered in 30 days, your first month is refunded. I guarantee the work, not rankings or results.

1

Audit. If you already run ads, I check what you're paying for. You own your Google Ads account, and I'm added as a user. For a deeper review of an existing account on its own, see my Google Ads audit.

2

Campaigns by job type, with emergency hours set on purpose. Emergency, drain and sewer, water heater, and planned work each get their own campaign. Emergency campaigns run 24/7 only if calls are covered around the clock.

3

Call tracking. Calls from ads and your website counted as conversions, with a minimum call length so hang-ups and wrong numbers don't count. Google lets you set that length for call conversions (Google Ads Help).

4

Weekly changes, monthly report. Search terms, negatives, budgets and schedules adjusted weekly; a monthly report on spend, calls and booked jobs by campaign.

Google Ads and Local Services Ads for plumbers

Search ads let you choose keywords, ad copy, landing pages and hours for each job type. Local Services Ads work differently: Google says they show prominently in local search results, you pay only for leads, and your ad ranking may be affected if you regularly miss calls or messages (Google Local Services Help). For plumbers, that makes answering speed part of the advertising. I set up and manage Local Services Ads, or advise you on them if you'd rather run them yourself. Whether both fit your company depends on your market and how fast you can respond; we decide that on the strategy call.

When weather spikes demand

A hard freeze or a run of heavy rain can bring a burst of frozen-pipe, burst-pipe, sump pump and sewer backup searches in a few days. Budgets set for an average week can run out early on exactly those days. I watch for forecast-driven spikes and adjust budgets and schedules for the days your crews can take the extra calls.

Answering the calls you pay for

The most expensive plumbing lead is the paid emergency call that nobody answers. Ad hours are matched to your coverage. Missed-call text-back isn't part of Google Ads management; it's a recommended add-on from my AI answering service, available now for Google Ads clients by request.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Should plumbers run Google Ads 24 hours a day?

Only if someone answers 24 hours a day. Emergency ads that run overnight with nobody picking up spend money on calls you can't take. Many plumbers run emergency campaigns during covered hours and keep planned-job campaigns running in the evening, when people research.

How far should plumbing ads reach?

As far as your trucks can reasonably drive for the job. An emergency call from a town an hour away often isn't worth the trip. Set locations by drive time from where your crews start, and check the setting that decides whether ads show to people in your area or just interested in it.

Which plumbing searches should I not pay for?

DIY and "how to" searches, parts and supply-store searches, plumbing jobs and apprenticeship searches, and services you don't offer. A negative keyword list built before launch and reviewed each week keeps the budget on people who want to hire a plumber.

What happens to my ads when a freeze or storm hits?

Search demand for burst pipes, frozen pipes and sewer backups can jump in a few days. If your crews can take the extra work, budgets and schedules can be raised for those days so the ads don't stop early. If they can't, there's no point paying for calls you can't run.

Should emergency plumbing ads send people to my website?

For emergency searches on a phone, most people want to call, so the ad should make calling one tap. For planned work like water heaters and repipes, send people to a page for that job, with options, photos and a quote form.

What if Google Ads isn't working for my plumbing company?

Terms are month-to-month, with no minimum term and 30 days' notice. We agree your 30-day setup and fix list up front. If it isn't delivered in 30 days, your first month is refunded. I guarantee the work, not rankings or results.
