Landscaping SEO That Helps Bring In Booked Jobs
Landscaping SEO is the work of getting your company to show up in Google search and Google Maps when homeowners and property managers nearby look for the services you sell. Unlike generic SEO, it has to follow seasonal demand, fit a service area instead of a storefront, and prove the quality of your work with real project photos. I've worked in SEO and Google Ads for 14+ years, with 150+ dental & local service businesses served. This page is the step-by-step version of how I do SEO for landscapers and lawn care companies.
Why landscaping companies don't show up on Google Maps
| What you see | Usual cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| A competitor down the road shows up and you don't | Business Profile categories that don't describe your main services | The most specific primary category, plus services listed in the profile |
| You only show up in your own town | A service area that doesn't match where your crews work, or no pages for nearby towns | A service area that matches reality, and town pages where you have real projects |
| Your site ranks for your name and little else | A single "Services" page covering mowing, patios and irrigation at once | A page for each service you want to sell |
| Traffic arrives after the season is already busy | Seasonal pages published when demand has already started | Pages written and updated a few months ahead of each season |
| Visitors leave without calling | Stock photos and no clear way to request an estimate | Your own project photos and a short estimate form |
How landscaping SEO works: step by step
Keyword and service map
I start by matching search terms to the services you actually want more of: maintenance, lawn care programs, design-build, hardscaping, irrigation and seasonal clean-ups. Each group of searches gets one page, so pages don't compete with each other and each one has a clear job.
One page per service
A single "Services" page can't rank for "paver patio installation" and "weekly lawn mowing" at the same time, because the searcher, the photos and the questions are different. A page per service lets you answer the questions that buyer asks, show the right projects and target the towns where you do that work.
Google Business Profile
According to Google Business Profile Help, local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and popularity. Your profile is where you control relevance: the primary category, secondary categories, the services list, hours and photos of real projects. Google's Business Profile guidelines say a service-area business should hide its address from customers and set a service area instead. Regular posts about current projects and seasonal services keep the profile fresh. The industry-neutral version of this work is on my local SEO services page.
Reviews
Ask each customer for a review soon after the job, with a direct link, and reply to the reviews you get. Google's Maps user-generated content policy prohibits offering incentives for reviews and selectively asking for positive reviews. My review engine is coming soon; until then, we set up a simple manual routine your crews can follow.
Seasonal content timing
Spring clean-ups, lawn programs, fall leaf removal and holiday lighting all have search demand that rises before the work starts. Pages for each seasonal service go live or get refreshed a few months ahead, so they have time to be crawled and start showing up when homeowners begin looking.
Project galleries and before-and-after pages
Galleries help most when each project has its own short page: the town, the service, what the yard looked like before and what you built. Use your own photos only. A patio project in a named town is the kind of page that can show up for searches about that service in that area.
Local links and citations
Make sure your business name, address and phone match on the directories and supplier listings that matter for your area. Links from local suppliers, nurseries, trade associations, community sponsorships and neighborhood groups help Google see you as a real local business.
Showing up in AI answers
Homeowners now ask AI assistants which landscaper to call. Clear service pages, consistent business details and direct answers to common questions make your company easier for those tools to describe accurately. The full method is on my AI search optimization page.
SEO for lawn care companies vs design-build landscapers
Lawn care SEO is about coverage and convenience: pages for each recurring service, the towns and neighborhoods you serve, and a simple way to sign up. Lawn care buyers decide quickly, so the profile, reviews and a mobile-friendly sign-up form carry most of the weight.
Design-build SEO is about trust and proof. Buyers research for weeks, compare portfolios and read about your process before they ask for an estimate. Detailed project pages, design process pages and answers to planning questions do the heavy lifting. Many companies do both, so the site structure keeps the two paths separate.
Tracking: calls, estimate requests and booked jobs
I set up call tracking and form tracking so you can see which pages and which parts of the profile bring in calls and estimate requests, and, where your scheduling or CRM data allows, which ones turned into booked jobs. Missed-call text-back (available now for Google Ads clients, by request) sends an automatic text reply when a call is missed. My missed-call text-back and AI answering (coming soon) system is planned for the calls crews can't take; the AI voice receptionist and web chat are coming soon.

Frequently asked questions
What is landscaping SEO?
Landscaping SEO is the process of helping a landscaping or lawn care company show up in Google search and Google Maps for the services it sells, in the towns it serves. It covers service pages, the Google Business Profile, reviews, project photos, local links and tracking.
How long does SEO take to work for a landscaping company?
It depends on your competition, the state of your site and profile, and how many services and towns you want to show up for. Audit and fix list in weeks 1-2, core work over months 1-4. Starting a few months before your busy season gives the work time to build. I won't promise a ranking or a date.
Is SEO or Google Ads better for landscapers?
Most companies benefit from both. Google Ads can bring in calls quickly and handle seasonal spikes, while SEO builds visibility that keeps working after the season. How I run Google Ads for landscapers is on my landscaping marketing page.
Do I need a separate page for every landscaping service?
For the services you want more of, yes. A page per service lets you answer that buyer's questions, show the right projects and match the searches people use. Smaller add-on services can share a page.
Can lawn care companies rank in Google Maps without a storefront?
Yes. Most lawn care companies are service-area businesses. The profile is set up with the address hidden and a service area that matches where you really work, and visibility then depends on relevance, distance and popularity like any other business.
Do you require a long-term contract?
No. Terms are month-to-month, with no minimum term and 30 days' notice.
